New report from ETFGI finds assets invested in actively managed ETFs listed globally reached a new record of 1.63 trillion US Dollars at the end of August

LONDON September 23, 2025 ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm renowned for its expertise in subscription research, consulting services, events, and ETF TV on global ETF industry trends, reported today that assets invested in the actively managed ETFs listed globally reached a new record of US$1.63 trillion at the end of August. During August the actively managed ETFs listed globally gathered net inflows of US$53.39 billion, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$377.13 billion, according to ETFGI’s August 2025 Active ETF and ETP industry landscape insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)

 

Active ETFs listed globally highlights – end of August 2025

  • Assets invested in actively managed ETFs globally reached a new record of $1.63 trillion at the end of August, surpassing the previous record of $1.55 trillion at the end of July 2025.
  • Assets increased by 39.0% year-to-date in 2025, rising from $1.17 trillion at the end of 2024 to $1.63 trillion.
  • Net inflows totaled $53.39 billion in August 2025.
  • Year-to-date net inflows of $377.13 billion are the highest on record, followed by $212.63 billion in 2024 and $99.64 billion in 2023.
  • Net inflows over the past 12 months reached $538.05 billion.
  • August marked the 65th consecutive month of net inflows.
  • There were 4,058 actively managed ETFs listed globally, with 5,296 listings, assets of $1.63 Tn, from 599 providers listed on 43 exchanges in 34 countries at the end of August.

“The S&P 500 index rose 2.03% in August, bringing its year-to-date gain to 10.79%. Developed markets excluding the US index advanced 4.29% during the month, and are now up 24.56% year-to-date. Among developed markets, Denmark (+6.37%) and Japan (+6.24%) experienced the largest declines in August. Emerging markets index posted a 2.48% gain in August, with year-to-date performance reaching +16.04%. Chile (+9.63%) and Brazil (+8.46%) led the gains among emerging markets during the month,” according to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder, and owner of ETFGI.

Actively Managed ETFs listed globally – end of August

  • Equity-focused actively managed ETFs listed globally gathered $29.08 billion in net inflows during August.
  • Year-to-date net inflows into equity products reached $212.80 billion, significantly higher than the $123.57 billion recorded at this point in 2024.
  • Fixed income–focused actively managed ETFs listed globally reported $20.96 billion in net inflows during August.
  • Year-to-date net inflows into fixed income products totaled $144.64 billion through August 2025, nearly double the $76.11 billion reported during the same period in 2024.

 

Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 active ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $16.01 Bn during August. Capital Group Municipal High-Income ETF (CGHM US) gathered $1.87 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
